Benson: 'I didn't say' I wouldn't sell Saints

Tom Benson has proved once again that he is a hypocrite.

In the same week Benson was quoted in the New Orleans Times-Picayune as saying, "I'm not going to sell the club. My granddaughter is working hard, and she's going to be involved in this club for a long time. I'm not interested in selling the club," Benson reneged on those same comments.

In a Yahoo! Sports article entitled "Saints on the march?", when Benson was asked if he had guaranteed that he wouldn't sell the Saints, he replied, "I didn't say that."

So which is it, Tom? Keep the team or sell it? Renovated Superdome or new stadium? San Antonio, Albuquerque, or Los Angeles?

This makes comments like "I wouldn't take $5 billion for the team" all the more ridiculous.

The facts are that Benson being an ass or christ is irrelevant. New Orleans is at the low end of the NFL list of markets. One prediction I would bet my life on is this: if the team left there would be more support to bring a new franchise from the NFL at a greater price than what is being offered at present.

Sadly, Blanco, an inept figurehead of a governor, does not understand the reality of business (this is business guys). The Saints do more for Louisiana and New Orleans than the paltry deal that the Saints have with them. You must see this situation in the light of the real world and the present day league.

I wonder if you are a business person. To answer your retorical questions assumes a linear and simplistic evaluation to a complex matrix. The real question is this: Does Louisiana want an NFL franchise? That is the issue. Even more appropriately, the question is: Can Louisiana Afford an NFL Franchise? Dollars to Doughnuts, if the Saints leave, the state would offer much more to attract a new franchise. One of the lessons of business and customers is this: what have you done for me lately? Benson could have gotten much more to move the team long ago ( a short term deal that made the team very profitable was done to avoid dealing with the new stadium issus) - he receives no credit for this business reality only criticism for his expressing the business facts now.
